You’re too Sweet | Part 1

A little red flag popped into my head as I realized this was the first time my friend was wearing cologne.

Wearing no makeup and a frumpy sweater, I sat in my friend Jace’s truck. I wished I had put my long blonde locks into a bun or called a friend and asked them to join me.

Though Jace and I had talked a few times before, we didn’t know each other that well. He was a friend of a friend who I thought was funny and sweet, but overweight and sloppy. The first time we met, we bonded over TV shows and being single. We joked that all our friends had significant others so there was no one to hang out with on the weekends.

One day, Jace invited me to the movies.

When we got to the theater, he opened the door for me and paid for my ticket — more red flags. I sat nervously through the movie, watching the incredibly boring scientific drama. As the credits rolled he turned to me, “Yeah. It’s like a cow’s opinion. It just doesn’t matter. It’s moo.”

I burst out laughing at his Friend’s reference.

On the way home I finally come to terms with the fact that I was on a date that I didn’t necessarily want to be on. He talked about having a Friends marathon and I nodded as my hands began to shake.
