What does it mean to love? To be loved? Love is not something easily defined. Common definitions don’t it justice. Love can mean different things to different people. The way I feel loved may not resonate with my neighbor, but the way I give love may relate to my family. Love is not as simple as it might appear.

I struggle with the meaning of love because I am re-evaluating how I feel loved and how I show love. I have discovered that many of my actions are a result of my wanting to feel loved. Some of the ways I have tried to feel loved are by eating food, buying material things, and accomplishing tasks.

Each is a temporary fix to an underlying problem. I don’t want to seek love in earthly things. I want to accept God’s love for me so I don’t need earthly things. God loves me, but knowledge is not enough. I need to accept that love to be changed. It seems so simple on the surface. I have the desire to be loved, as I’m sure everyone does, but I can’t receive it. If you also struggle with this, let’s explore that roadblock together.

Love is a verb. (Merriam-Webster): Love Definition & Meaning

  • to hold dear
  • to feel a lover’s passion, devotion…
