The New Tolerance of Millenial Christians
Christians are too judgemental. They have bad character and are always telling me what I should and shouldn’t do. Christians don’t stand up for injustice and defend injustice. Does any of this sound familiar? The last few decades of Christianity has caused the public to label Christians intolerant — and sometimes rightfully so, but society needs to re-examine millennials.
The Previous Generation
Growing up in the church, I never thought it was intolerant, but I thought many Christians were stuck in their ways. A typical criticism of Christianity at the time. With the cultural shift, many Christians hesitated to accept lifestyles that their forefathers warned them to avoid.
For example, my dad once explained to me why he was against tattoos. When he grew up, people with tattoos were the worst of the worst of society. My parents taught my dad to avoid anyone with tattoos. They weren’t successful or upstanding citizens, a stereotype that held water in previous generations. It was tough for him to change his perspective.
In contrast, I grew up in an era that shattered stereotypes — an age where tattoos were seen as hip and trendy. Everyone was getting one. A majority of my friends, Christians, and non-Christians, have tattoos. My view of them is wildly different. Body art is nothing…
