Stop Treating Christians Differently

When a classmate stopped swearing around me, I realized people treat Christians differently.

When a coworker made sure I wasn’t present when telling a joke about sex, I realized people treat Christians differently.

When a friend didn’t tell me he was dating two women, I realized people treat Christians differently.

When my group didn’t tell me the bar was having a burlesque karaoke night, I realized people treat Christians differently.

When a friend apologized for smoking weed in front of me, I realized…

Thank you, but no thank you.

To all non-Christians: be yourself around your Christian friends. Smoke your weed, swear like a sailor, and tell that joke. I am not going to judge you nor I am not going to tell you to stop.

Surprised?

You shouldn’t be.

Guess what? Blue Moon is my favorite beer.

Guess what? I have sworn before.

Guess what? Burlesque is one of my favorite movies.

Guess what? Weed smells terrible. (Don’t worry, Mom, I have never done weed!)

Guess what? I, nor you, are going to hell for any of those things.

Even more surprised?

You shouldn’t be.

I’m not sure what the misconception about Christians is here. That you don’t want to offend me? Maybe I don’t know…
