I’m Tired of Talking About the Pandemic

I’m not disputing the severity; I’m talking about the insanity resulting from the situation.

If you haven’t heard by now, there is a global pandemic. A new strain of coronavirus emerged in China in November or December of 2019. The CDC officially named the virus COVID-19. I’m going to be politically incorrect and refer to it as the China virus.

Different countries are taking various measures to combat the virus. America is practicing social distancing and self-quarantining. Everything is canceled or put on hold. Because of these measures, many businesses have closed, and employees have been furloughed or laid off.

I got laid off from my part-time job as a personal trainer. My husband kept his role as an engineer and is still going to work every day, though the company has made a few tweaks. We are not rich by American standards, but we don’t like paycheck to paycheck. Our financial lives haven’t changed much.

What has changed is that our lives are revolving around this crisis as I’m sure everyone else’s is. Every piece of news is about the pandemic. Every conversation is about the mess. Every thought filled with anxiety and preparation or prevention of spreading the China virus. Every time you leave your house, you are putting yourself at risk.
