I have only been on one, second date, and that man is now my husband.

I will just let that sink in a second.

The first serious relationship I had was with the man I married.

You may scoff and ridicule, but I’m perfectly fine with how my romantic life played out. Focusing on school and sports and friends made my teens and early twenties fun! Waiting until I had figured out exactly who I was and what I wanted from a partner saved me a lot of heartache and stress.

Here is a quick summary of my romantic life:

High School

My first “boyfriend” was my freshman year of high school, and it lasted a week. When people asked me why I broke up with him, I told them I wasn’t ready for a boyfriend.

OH, THE WEIRD LOOKS I GOT!

After that, I had a few crushes in high school, but nothing became of any them until senior year. I met a guy on a spring break trip, and the “relationship” was pretty much a disaster. Don’t judge me, because this is so petty, but I started flirting with the guy because he was flirting with one of my friends and I was jealous.

This point in my life was the height of my eating disorder, so the relationship was doomed before it started. I knew there was something wrong with how I looked at a romantic…
