I’m a Pre-Political Taylor Swift Fan
You get woke, I change the radio station.
I recently watched Miss Americana, Taylor Swift’s new documentary on Netflix. Taylor and I live in two different worlds, but after watching this documentary, I feel like we live on two different planets. The dialogue felt like a bunch of lies. I thought Taylor was authentic in the past, but ever since she came out as political, she seems unauthentic. Like when the camera is on, she reads from a script someone gave her.
I’m not the only one who thought this. Check out Shallon Lester:
Pre-Politics
I used Taylor Swift’s first name throughout this article not because she is a household name, but because she has been a big part of my life for a long time. Taylor and I are about the same age (Taylor was born in ’89, and I was born in ‘93). I grew up with her. I refer to her as Taylor in my daily life, so it would be weird to use “Swift” here.
I felt like we were friends. I can tell you where I was the first time I heard one of her songs. I was running errands with my mom, and Tear Drop on My Guitar came on the radio. My mom told me Taylor was new to the music scene, only sixteen years old, and how awesome she was! When I got home, I discovered the rest of her music and loved her.
