I Have Never Been Laid Off Before

Through no fault of my own or my employer, I have been laid off. I’m a personal trainer by day and writer by night. Due to the coronavirus, social distancing, and stay-at-home orders, my gym closed, and all trainers laid off. The owners, bless their hearts, filed for unemployment for all their employees.

I am blessed to be married to an engineer. His job is considered an essential service, and he continues to drag his butt to work every day. We have enough money to pay all of our bills. We don’t have to worry about making ends meet during this time.

Being laid off is probably the weirdest feeling ever. I have never been unemployed for longer than a few months. I have never been let go from a job. When I was in between jobs, I was applying for jobs. Each post I left because my life was in transition — I moved, or the job was seasonal. In the twenty-first century, life requires that everyone has a source of income, so that’s what I have done. Being out of work and not applying for jobs is foreign to me.

I want to go back to personal training after the global pandemic is over, but in the meantime, I’m writing full time. I see this time as a test run for being a full-time blogger/writer. If I can take it, then I know this career path is right for me.
