How I’m Using My Degree Post-College: I’m Not

Six years, $25,000 in debt, and I don’t regret a thing.

I have my bachelor’s in biochemistry, and my master’s in biomedical sciences. My current employment is as a personal trainer, and I run a blog about surviving and healing after an eating disorder. Neither requires a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or any college education, but both jobs are what I was meant to do.

So if I could go back and do it again, would I? Yes, every single moment.

I am proud of who I am today, so I don’t regret my past decisions. If I hadn’t made those decisions, I wouldn’t be me! I wouldn’t have met my husband, I wouldn’t have had my eating disorder, then I wouldn’t have started my blog, I wouldn’t have become a writer, and I wouldn’t have had the opportunities that I did.

I know I am not going to use those degrees directly; I am not going to get a job that requires a college degree in those areas. With my degrees, I go into two fields: research and teach. I researched during college, and after I graduated with my masters, I got a job teaching at a community college. Neither work was a good fit for me; both had too many hoops and too much politics. They weren’t the kinds of jobs that I wanted, mainly because I wanted to be my own boss.
