“Waiting is an action, patience is the attitude.”

My husband and I recently went on a marriage enrichment weekend. The retreat was not for couples in crisis, but for a husband and wife who needed a little extra guidance. My husband and I weren’t thinking about going because our marriage is great. But when we got invited, we didn’t hesitate to say yes.

The big question on our minds was what was next for us. My husband and I got married in 2019, then bought a house in 2020. Everything was happening so fast. We wanted to know what 2021 had in store. We were surrounded by power couples, awesome people having babies, and starting movements.

What were we going to do? Spoiler alert: nothing.

At the beginning of the year, I felt like God was telling me to stop worrying and my husband felt God saying to be patient. At the end of the enrichment weekend, the pastor spoke to each couple to give us a picture or vision of what God wanted for us. While three other couples were on a jet ski, ready to punch the gas, my husband and I were seeds growing roots. The pastor said, “be patient.”

PATIENT? But what is that!? Literally, how do you stand still? In a culture where everyone is waiting for the next thing, the newest song, the latest…
