A Chapter by Chapter Review of Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis
The subtitle of Girl, Stop Apologizing is “A Shame-Free Plan For Embracing and Achieving Your Goals,” so I approached the book as encouragement for entrepreneurs. It is for women who want to start businesses and make money. The third skill Hollis suggests is “persistence.”
The theme of the skills section is, “I don’t know how to do something, but I landed the job and figured it out afterward.” This chapter has one example of how she tries to appear like her hard work was the only factor in getting her to where she is today. That is never true. Everyone does the best with the cards they are handed. She did a fantastic job playing her cards, and only a part of that job was working hard.
The Good
“It never went as fast as I wanted it to, and if I had given up because I hadn’t achieved my goal by a certain date, I wouldn’t have achieved any of the things you know me for today.” (183)
“The reason people give up or fall off or aren’t willing to keep moving forward is because they believe this goal that they’re chasing is temporary.” (184)
