A Chapter by Chapter Review of Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis

The subtitle of Girl, Stop Apologizing is “A Shame-Free Plan For Embracing and Achieving Your Goals,” so I approached the book as encouragement for entrepreneurs. It is for women who want to start businesses and make money. The first skill to acquire Hollis suggests is “planning.”

The skills section of this book is better than the other two. I highlighted more interesting, helpful, and profound quotes than were questionable, wrong, or needed to be researched. The bigger problem is these skills are nothing groundbreaking, but it was a breath of fresh air from the rest of the book.

The skills section is less controversial because it’s broader. There aren’t any details to pick apart. Everything is like “the sky is blue,” which isn’t contentious like this section on planning. You need to have some plan to accomplish a goal; no one wakes up in shape.

The Good

“The first step toward achieving your goal is to know where you’re headed. The problem is that often people think that’s all they need to know. They forget one crucial piece of the puzzle: a map only works if you know both your end and your starting point.” (156)
