Girl, Stop Apologizing: Excuse 5 Part 3
A Chapter by Chapter Review of Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis
This chapter had so many points that I wanted to address that I had to break up the article into THREE parts. In this section, I discuss Hollis’s view on mommy guilt and her writing.
Mommy Guilt
It’s difficult for me to speak about mommy guilt because I’m not a mom (cat’s don’t count!). I can, however, talk freely about guilt. That’s why I included this section; I do not agree with Hollis’s view on guilt, and mommy guilt, so let’s talk about it.
Let’s define mommy guilt per the internet. Urban Dictionary describes mommy guilt as “Guilt a mother feels anytime she takes time to do something for herself, outside of work, that does not involve her children.”
Hollis defines it slightly differently than the Urban Dictionary does. “Mommy guilt only works to make you question everything you have done, are doing or might consider doing in the future.” (50) “Mommy guilt likes to remind you of the regular of all the ways you’re failing your children.” (48)
