A Chapter by Chapter Review of Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis

The subtitle of Girl, Stop Apologizing is “A Shame-Free Plan For Embracing and Achieving Your Goals,” so I approached the book as encouragement for entrepreneurs. It is for women who want to start businesses and make money. The fourth excuse Hollis tackles is the one used by women who haven’t become entrepreneurs because “they’re not enough to succeed.”

I have used this excuse before, so I found myself using my green highlighter (for inspirational points) often in this section. When I started my blog (progressnotperfectioncompany.com), I didn’t have any confidence in it. My husband encouraged me to go all in. At the time, I read Christy Wright’s Business Boutique, and she quieted my fears.

First, Wright describes what experts call the “Imposter Syndrome.” She defines this feeling as “when someone feels undeserving of their achievements and is afraid of being found out.” (Wright, 15) I identified with this because I didn’t feel worthy of leading other women through my blog. What Wright wrote in her book, spoke to me. “Ironically, those who suffer the most from Imposter Syndrome are high achievers.” (Wright, 15)
