Girl, Stop Apologizing: Excuse 2
A Chapter by Chapter Breakdown of Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis
The subtitle of Girl, Stop Apologizing is “A Shame-Free Plan For Embracing and Achieving Your Goals,” so I approached the book as encouragement for entrepreneurs. It is for women who want to start businesses and make money. The second excuse Hollis tackles is the one used by women who haven't become entrepreneurs because “they’re not a goal-oriented person.”
Some people don’t have goals, but for women who want to be entrepreneurs, this probably isn’t an excuse they use. Hollis acknowledges this, and that’s perhaps why this chapter is so short! But not why it doesn’t have great examples.
The Good
“You’re not a goal-oriented person yet. Finding your goal, focusing in on it, and learning to work to get closer to it every day is possible for anyone.” (17)
“A goal is a dream with its work boots on.” (17)
“Having something to work toward gives us purpose. Achieving new milestones, even little ones, gives us a sense of accomplishment and pride.” (19) I’m always pushing the power of purpose, so I’m glad Hollis is too!
