A Chapter by Chapter Review of Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis

The subtitle of Girl, Stop Apologizing is “A Shame-Free Plan For Embracing and Achieving Your Goals,” so I approached the book as encouragement for entrepreneurs. It is for women who want to start businesses and make money. The sixth behavior Hollis suggests is to “stop allowing them to talk you out of it.”

Hollis writes, “it’s so much better to give up on your thing, your goal, because if anyone else is inconvenienced, then your goal must be wrong.” (139) This chapter is about not caring what other people think of you.

I have struggled with this in the past, and to this day, I have to scold myself sometimes for allowing other people’s opinions to rule my actions. That being said, I wouldn’t say I liked this chapter. I didn’t get anything out of it, nor did I find it helpful. Let me explain.

The Good

“Other people’s opinions of you are none of your business.” (141)

The Bad

“The best advice I know of in this situation is if you want to change someone else, change yourself.” (139)
