A Chapter by Chapter Review of Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis

The subtitle of Girl, Stop Apologizing is “A Shame-Free Plan For Embracing and Achieving Your Goals,” so I approached the book as encouragement for entrepreneurs. It is for women who want to start businesses and make money. The fourth behavior Hollis suggests is to “ask for help.”

I struggled with taking on too much, more than not asking for help when I needed it. But in some ways, the two go hand in hand. I think I can do it all, so I try to do it all when someone else is perfectly capable of doing it.

This chapter focused on encouraging women to ask for help, which didn’t necessarily speak to me. As someone who doesn’t ask for help often, I needed advice on when to request assistance, from whom to summon help, and for what to ask.

The Good

“I blame every perfectly styled, ultra-fabulous-looking woman who’s ever been on TV or the internet in the last fifty years who didn’t tell us how much assistance it takes to keep her at that level.” (113)
