Date a Man Who Enjoys Video Games, Not a Guy Who Plays Video Games

When my husband (boyfriend at the time) first told me he played video games, I was skeptical about dating him. You know the stereotype: Cheeto dust on face, up until 4 am, can’t look another human in the eye. I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to pull him away from his games. That’s not exactly boyfriend material. Thank goodness, he doesn’t live up to the stereotype, or I wouldn’t have married him. The more I got to know him, the more I realized that I love the fact that he enjoys video games.

The Bright Side of Video Games

Video games are how he keeps in touch with his friends. They are all part of the same discord channel, so whenever he jumps on, a friend is also there. It’s like they get transported to our living room, and my husband has hours of entertainment. He has kept most of his friends from high school and college because of discord. Between his family, me, and his discord friends, he has an excellent support system.

The best part is if I have work to get done, I can tell him to play, and I’m free to finish my work. My husband’s love language is quality time, which at first scared me as much as him liking video games. I have never understood this love language because I thought I had to pay attention to him for hours doing what he wanted to do…
