4.5 out of 5. Always happy to experience the sass and adventure of a Rick Riordan book. I picked up this book after a long hiatus from reading. I can always rely on Riordan to help me love reading again.

Setting

The setting is nothing new: New York/Camp Half-Blood, greek gods, demi-gods, etc. If you have read a Rick Riordan/Percy Jackson book, you will be entering a world as familiar as your backyard.

Plot

Exactly what I would expect of Riordan: fast pace plot. He also has to set up new conflicts in this book so there are some lulls in the action which is to be expected. The setup is interesting enough for me to pick up the second book.

How he continues to make so many spin-offs that connect to each other, baffles me! They all connect and make sense (at least to me, I haven’t found any plot holes yet).

Characters

Apollo “Lester Papadopoulos”

Best narration. Riordan captures Apollo’s inner dialogue perfectly. I expect him to be arrogant and prideful, but also human. I think what Riordan does best is capture the god yet human aspect of the Greek gods/myths. Apollo was a god thought up by humans; he still has human…
